Dual Density Grinding Base Dildo Review

The Grinding Base Dildo appealed to me specifically for its use as a strap on dildo that has a base to benefit the wearer. As someone who enjoys grinding, and also likes using dildos as strap ons, this dildo seemed like a good pairing for me. I also had a strong suspicion that my boyfriend, who is trans (FTM), would enjoy a dildo that stimulated his dick while thrusting into me. As we both spend time in both roles of the strap on this review will include both of our experiences from each end.

Crassie Grinding Base Dildo Specs

I own the Large size Grinding Base Dildo from Crassie, which is made from body-safe silicone, with an internal rod for posing (I assume this rod is metal). It comes in three colors: blue, green, and pink. And it also comes in size small.

The small is 7.2 inches long, with 5.5 of those inches being insertable. It has a 1.2 inch width (diameter), and the grinding base is 2.5 inches wide (diameter).

The large is 8 inches long with 6.3 of those inches being insertable. It has a 1.4 inch width (diameter) and the grinding base is 2.9 inches wide (diameter).

The base of the dildo makes it anal-safe but I cannot review the dildo from that perspective as neither myself nor my boyfriend have used it that way.

How Does the Grinding Base Feel for Someone with Bottom Growth?

My boyfriend has bottom growth, and his body is shaped where his dick is more forward facing, and not buried by labia or mons pubis, so his anatomy is ideal to benefit from the Crassie Grinding Base Dildo. He said the biggest bump on the grinding base can be positioned above or below the head of his dick for a slight variation in sensation. He enjoyed the feeling of being able to pound his dick against the base with the dildo fully inside of me.

He did say that the base was a bit too squishy for him to get the most benefit from, especially the warmer it gets. He also said it still felt like using a strap-on dildo, and didn’t beat out his preference for the Funzze strapless strap-on

How did the Grinding Base Feel for Me (someone without bottom growth)?

If you’re not aware, I am genderqueer, and I do not have bottom growth (currently). My clit is buried by labia majora and I have a plump pubic mound so my anatomy is not quite as ideally suited as my boyfriend’s is to benefit from the Grinding Base Dildo’s grinder side, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to try it. I enjoy grinding sex toys, and I also get a lot of pleasure from the physical sensation strap on sex offers from the base of a dildo rhythmically hitting against my pubic mound. This is a form of indirect clit stimulation that I do actually enjoy, compared to my love for VERY direct stimulation, so I was very curious as to how the ribbed grinding base would perform for me.

The Grinding Base Dildo is just as plush as the other Crassie dildos I own, and the ribbed grinding base is very squishy, as the internal rod that makes the dildo poseable and dual density is not in the base. The grinding base pressed against the front half of my vulva, and mons pubis, in an encompassing way that I found somewhat pleasureable, but not highly stimulating in a direct way.

I think in order for the ribbed section to stimulate my clit in a more noticeable way the base would need to be a firmer silicone, because my own body is already very squishy in that area so the squish on squish is rather indistinguishable to me. If my clit was less buried it may also have been easier to feel more direct stimulation. It was never uncomfortable though, no matter how intensely I thrusted into my boyfriend. Some strap-on wearers find dildo bases uncomfortable as they repeatedly tap against the body, but I find it highly unlikely that would be a problem with the Grinding Base Dual Density Dildo

If you’re someone who enjoys more indirect forms of stimulation like humping a pillow, tapping your mons pubis above your clit (or your preferred term), or masturbating through layers of clothes/other fabric, the Grinding Base’s grinder may really appeal to you.

The base being so wide, pressed against so much of my body, and softness of the material did allow me to feel some of my boyfriend’s clenching and muscle tone, which I always appreciate because it creates a more intuitive experience.

Flexibility and Posing of the Grinding Base Dual Density Dildo

The Grinding Base Dildo isn’t dual density in the traditional sense of two different densities of silicone, but there’s an internal rod giving the dildo its stability, and also the ability to pose it. Being able to pose and change the shape of the Grinding Base Dildo is a helpful feature for position changes, and getting to choose what area you want stimulated. I would like the internal rod to be a bit stiffer because the dildo does lose some of whatever shape it’s put into after a few minutes of use. It’s not entirely useless, just not as good as it could be, I think.

How’s the Grinding Base Dildo as a Dildo?

The Crassie Grinding Base Dildo is a very smooth dildo. If you’re particularly sensitive to texture changes or shape dips, such as right below the coronal ridge on more realistic dildos, Crassie’s plush silicone may be an ideal choice for you. I own two other dildos from Crassie beyond this Grinding Base Dildo and all 3 have the same super soft, marshmallowy texture.

I suggest using a bit of extra lubricant if your body does not make a lot of its own fluids, because while the material is very soft occasionally it can feel grippy.

I own the Large size Grinding Base Dildo, and because it has so much give, my boyfriend who normally would find a dildo of its size slightly out of his comfort range, has zero trouble taking it. He likes the smooth shape so much he has asked that it be the “usual” dildo used on him. He likes how filling it is, and how it can be used deeply without any discomfort.

For myself, I enjoy the size but find the lack of texture and distinction not well-suited to my preferences. I also don’t feel like it really targets any specific internal spots.

Cleaning the Grinding Base Dildo

The Crassie Dual Density Grinding Base Dildo is quite easy to clean, as there’s no texture or spots for fluids to get built up in. As the material is super soft it’s very easy to feel if a spot needs to be cleaned more, or if there’s anything still stuck. I use warm water and mild soap to clean all of my sex toys. You can also use toy cleaner, the 1:10 bleach solution for sterilizing, the top rack of your dishwasher (no detergent!) if it has a sanitize setting, or the boiling method. The bleach, dishwasher, and boiling method are all more thorough forms of cleaning that really only need done if you need to sanitize after anal use, you’ve had an infection, or you’re swapping between non-fluid bonded partners. Soap and water is plenty most of the time.

Crassie includes a silky pink bag for storage which I suggest using because the material of the dildo picks up every random debris it comes in contact with.

Crassie Joque Style Harness

We’ve used the Crassie Grinding Base Dildo exclusively in the Crassie Joque Style Harness, which has worked well for both of us. The large dildo takes a bit of wiggling to get into the Joque’s 1.5” O-ring (mostly because of the fabric catching) but it stretches to accomodate it.

The Crassie Joque Harness is adjustable so it fits both myself (I’m plus size) and my boyfriend (not plus size), which is nice if you and a partner are looking to save money. Both the waist and the thigh straps adjust.

The harness has two pockets for vibrators, one above the O-ring and one below. There is fabric that can be used to cover the base of the dildo so it doesn’t rub against the wearer, or you can leave the base exposed.

Both of us feel the harness gives really good control, without sagging or stretching. The fabric is very smooth and none of the adjustable areas, or Velcro areas rub against our skin. It’s very easy to quickly adjust and get in and out of.

Cleaning the Crassie Joque Style Harness

You can hand wash or machine wash (on cold) your Joque style harness. Personally, I suggest hanging it to dry so the fabric and elasticity lasts longer, but you can toss it in the dryer on a low heat and remove as soon as dry.
